ESSENCE With the new production "Essence" the ensemble CHOREOS goes on a journey to the roots of our cultural existence. 16 exceptional actors and an extraordinary accordionist as a playful instrumental counterpart trace the pressing questions of our existence in seven images and pieces. Who are we? Where do we come from? Where are we going? Is man really free to define himself and is he in essence what he makes of himself? The production "Essence" confronts this philosophical question with sensual images as well as classical choral music at the highest level and translates it into concrete scenes. Choreographer Lars Scheibner and artistic director Stephan Lutermann and their top international ensemble CHOREOS are, as always, on the pulse of current events. Two commissioned compositions for choir and accordion by Seán Doherty (“Schläft ein Lied in allen Dingen") and Georgi Sztojanov ("Essence") use contemporary musical means to directly direct reference to the existential search for meaning in our society, which is hungry for resonance and society, which has to deal with change and ambiguity in all areas of life. Everything vibrates, pulsates and sounds - we humans, the world, the cosmos. Further compositions by Eva Holm Foosnaes, Jan Sandström and Gunnar Eriksson explore this sounding universe, based on lullabies, and thus repeatedly open up new new spaces of participation for the audience. With a song by Leonard Cohen CHOREOS also broadens the horizon musically in its new production and, through boundaries between the different musical styles disappear through fluid transitions.
