Dr Greer Murphy (Director of the Academic Integrity Office at University of California Santa Cruz and Vice President for Strategy at International Center for Academic Integrity (ICAI)) joins Dr Justin Tonra (Deputy Chair of the National Academic Integrity Network (NAIN) and Academic Integrity Officer at the University of Galway) for the latest episode in the NAIN Podcast Series. In the episode Dr Murphy shares her background and journey into academic integrity, as well as her work in University California Santa Cruz and how it differs from her work in ICAI. The contributors discuss the concept of “cultures” of academic integrity, the importance of trust, and the challenges that come with an educational and restorative approach to academic misconduct. We hear Dr Murphy and Dr Tonra compare academic integrity in the US and Ireland, New Zealand and Australia - with the assistance of Artificial Intelligence. Noting the latter three countries tend to connect academic integrity with Quality Assurance and adopt a network-driven approach. Dr Murphy’s also shares more the findings from her recent publication - Inconsistent Access, Uneven Approach: Ethical Implications and Practical Concerns of Prioritizing Legal Interests over Cultures of Academic Integrity and closes the episode with some helpful tips for busy academics/educators on where to start when it comes to academic integrity.
