How to BAM's: 'MAILBAG!' is the weekly show where we answer the questions from our viewers about making manga. On this weeks MAILBAG! we answered the following question: TwilightLaceDream writes: Great video. I found this to be informative and to make me think about my personal goals as someone who also wants to create and publish manga one day too. There is a something that concerned me for a while: if I really wanted to do this as an actual career, then that would mean being constantly rejected and criticized by others. It's obviously not easy to get a gig for making a debut and getting super successful with a series, especially since a lot of us live in societies where the styles typically seen in manga are looked down upon, the bias some fans have about OEL manga to be "fake" manga, and a comic book industry that prefers creators to draw and write about licensed superheroes that were created by those from more or less than a half century ago. Wouldn't that mean that I should probably find another career that would hopefully meet my creative interests (even though it's not related to manga or anything else to Japanese pop culture) while I pursue my dream of publishing my own manga? Would I still be committed to my dream even though I'm doing something else? I would have to get my money somewhere so I can survive, have a roof over my head and to buy supplies to draw manga after all. Sorry this is long but I hope you're able to answer this. Even if you don't, thanks for the video and I hope you post more up in the future. Good luck with your series!
