RÜZ RÜLZ Well, I've already posted two of the three 7"s from Lumpy Rex's recent update, so I might as well tie up loose ends and upload this too, right? This is Rüz, a five-piece punk group from St. Louis. I first mentioned these guys back in the Lars video ( • LARS - Demo ), as this group shares two of its members with that group, so I'm assuming that y'all might've already dipped your toes into their material. If you haven't, you're doing yourself a serious disservice, because as previously mentioned, Rüz rülz. This is their "newest" self-titled 7", put out by Lumpy Records earlier this year. The reason for those quotation marks is because this isn't totally new material from this group; it's a carbon-copy re-release of their "Tape Culture" cassette, albeit with "Stabbed In The Back" and "Panic" flip-flopped around on Side B. Which is more than fine with me, seeing as the only bit of their material I owned prior to this was their 2014 flexi (for real, check that out if you haven't already: https://ruzruzruz.bandcamp.com/album/.... I'm sure you've already picked up on these guys' fine talent, the addition of another guitar does wonders for this group. Straying away from the more rudimentary sounds found on their self-titled demo tape, Rüz rightfully stuck with the refined-but-livid shit from their phenomenal flexi, even returning to a personal favorite track from their demo. To me, one of the most appealing facets of this group was the vocals: they're noticeably strained and crack more often than not. It intermixes well with the tight jams found on this six-track 7", varying from moderate-tempo grooves to straight-spastic ragers. The riffs for all of these are memorable and incredibly catchy, and the satisfying dynamics of it all are easily appreciated, making Rüz one of the best hardcore groups to be coming out of St. Louis right now.
