My First AT-6 Engine Starts and Take Offs

To become a warbird pilot is my set goal eversince I saw WW2 fighters perform at airshows as a youngster. So I spent most of my money and spare time flying taildragger trainers like the Piper J3 / Pa-18 Cup, SV4 Stampe, Bücker Jungmann, Boeing Stearman, Focke Wulf Stieglitz, De Havilland Chipmunk and Klemm 35 and 107. I also had two P-51 D and TF backseat rides, having the best time of my life ! Always aware of the fact that you must learn to master the T-6 in order to even have a slight chance of one day being asked to maybe fly a warbird fighter. When a member of Quax Flieger Club privately bought an AT-6 Texan out of the Duxford Fighter Collection I immediatly asked to start warbird training and he agreed ! The deal being that I do a refresh Stearman biplane practise and clean the T-6, which I did. The hourly rate being high but fair ! Thanks a million for this opportunity everyone at Quax, the owner Alex and especially my Navy flight instructor Jörg "Schrambo" Schramma who demands absolute precision, system knowledge and tought me a lot. Former Panavia Tornado Jet Flight Instructor Jörg has over 500 hours on this type of plane and I wanted to do this flying for such a long time, thank you so much ! It was very exciting to be in control of this famous plane ! Hear this classic Pratt & Whitney radial engine cough to life with awesome sounding exhaust and prop noise up close ! Called the Pilot Maker the AT 6 Texan is the best military training aircraft of its time, aerobatic, responsive controls and well designed preparing young pilots to handle warbird fighters later on. This plane 1953 Canadian Royal Air Force Harvard MK IV D-FSIX is a pleasure to fly and shows me the general characteristics of a vintage heavy taildragger aircraft ! Filmed Full HD at the annual Quax Flieger July Airshow and Taildragger Training Week event staged at Flugplatz Bienenfarm Airfield EDOI near Berlin Germany September 2023. Air Cadets who trained on the Boeing Stearman and the AT-6 later flew high performance WW2 fighters like the Hawker Fury , Hurricane , Spitfire , Curtiss P 40 Warhawk , P 51 Mustang , P 47 Thunderbolt or F4U Corsair for example. They flew against warbird fighter planes like the Messerschmitt Bf 109 , FW 190 , Stuka, Zero and Heinkel Bombers to name just a few. Today these warbird trainer airplanes are privately owned and also used for Aerobatics and Air Racing at the Reno National Championship Air Races. Thanks for watching and have a Good Day !
