Today's video is the final video of 2024 and focusses on everything that has gone on this year, and wow it's been a busy year! Again this year has seen me travelling the length and breadth of the country filming steam trains, but before we get into the details I'd like to thank everyone who has supported the channel and me. Thank you very much to all the volunteers and workers who work tirelessly for heritage railways or one of the big mainline companies that keep these beasts running, very much an uphill struggle as many are nearing or over 100 years old! This video could not be possible without you. I also want to thank everyone who has helped me and talked to me this year, whether it be mates I've known for a longer period of time or just other fellow spotters I've spoken to briefly on station platforms. Thank you to my family, friends and as ever my wonderful secondary planner who's made all the right calls she has. A few things of note to have happened this year is the reintroduction of LNER A2 Pacific 60532 Blue Peter to traffic, despite numerous technical hitches. It's also been a delight to see new build GWR Grange 4-6-0 6880 Betton Grange alive and working! This year also saw GWR Castle Classes 7029 Clun Castle and 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe pair up once again for the Mayflower, which saw some amazing running throughout and impressed as ever on the Devon Banks. Not to be outdone, 7029 also hauled Z48 on her own tour, with equally impressive performances. Additionally, SR Merchant Navy Class 35028 Clan Line's return heralded two very impressive runs up two very difficult inclines, both of which feature in this video. This year did, however, see most of WCR's fleet stuck at base with their central door locking problem and a lack of the correct braking equipment. It was good to see SR Battle of Britain Class 34067 Tangmere racking up the miles before her unfortunate failure in October, which ended up being fixed significantly faster than I expected. Farewell also to LMS Royal Scot Class 46100 Royal Scot, who's boiler ticket expires early next year. Speaking of which, 2025 could bring 71000 Duke of Gloucester, 5029 Nunney Castle and 60163 Tornado back, and a return to the mainline for 34028 Eddystone, as well as being the year of Rail200! Hopefully all that will combine to create an equally wonderful year. For now though, sit back and enjoy all the performances that really impressed me this year, from gala locos romping up inclines to mainline steam at full pelt. *Just to quickly mention, a post edit problem means the first part of the video is slightly lower quality, I do apologise but I wasn't able to find a work around for it!
