Located between Jungnangcheon Stream and Hangang River, Seoul Forest, which was opened in 2005, is one of the most loved park by citizen. The park consists of four parts, Culture & Art Park, Educational Experience Park, Eco-forest Park, and Riverside Park along Hangang River. Seoul Forest Park is the first one which is established and managed by Citizen group as a public-private partnership. From 2003 to 2005, more than 5,000 citizens and 70 firms had participated to plant trees for the park. Since then it has been developing continuously with many volunteer activities and donations. Seoul Forest Park has been managed by an NPO, named Seoul Forest Park Conservancy under the contract with Seoul Metropolitan Government. Visiting hours: 24 hours open year-round (some parts are closed on Monday) Address: 273, Ttukseom-ro, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea Contact number: 02-460-2905 For parking: 02-461-2916 HISTORY May 4, 2013: The first tree planting event for the establishment Seoul Forest Park was organized by Seoul Green Trust Foundation June 18, 2015: Seoul Forest Park Opening and ‘Friends of Seoul Forest Park’ begun September, 2016: New Contract between Seoul Metropolitan and Seoul Green Trust November, 2016: Seoul Green Trust organized ‘Seoul Forest Park Conservancy’, which is a new name of ‘Friends of Seoul Forest Park’. The conservancy started to manage Seoul Forest park. Seoul Forest, used-to-be a horse racing In the past, the forest had been a royal hunting ground for kings and served as a military inspection facility. However, in more recent decades, the area has served a wide variety of functions. Ttukseom(Ttuk Island) initially served as a water-treatment facility, and later as a golf course, horse racing track, and eventually a sports park. Thanks to the contribution of citizens The Mayor announced to establish the Seoul Forest Park in January, 2003. And Seoul Green Trust was founded by Forest For Life(NPO) and Seoul City Government in June, 2003. Many citizens has joined as a member of Seoul Green Trust and participated to plant trees for the park development. From 2003 to 2005, 5,000 citizens and 70 companies raised the green fund more than 50 hundred million won for the new park. Besides, supporters have also been participating in managing Seoul Forest, through donations and volunteer activities.
