As for right now, this set to be a two part video as one more coal train is scheduled to come down sometime, it will be the final coal train the peninsula shall ever see. If you are watching from the future (wondering somehow managing to invent time travel) then this video title may change! In the near end of August, a post on the local Delmarva Central Railroad and Railroads of Delaware groups via Facebook was signaling an empty coal train, Norfolk Southern 579, was originating out of Baltimore and destined for the Indian River Power Plant. There was a lot of speculation as to the legitimacy of the train, which proved to be true in the early morning hours. While we had a morning before work to chase Norfolk Southern 579, the outer bands of Hurricane Erin was starting to make its appearance in the lower part of the Peninsula. It didn't stop us, however, from documenting such a rare move. The power was returned back and put on HA-1 and was taken back on K64. Different power from a previous grain train was assigned to take the loaded coal train (NS 578) several days later overnight and tie down in Clayton due to a tie replacement program up north. We see the Norfolk Southern K64 and Delmarva Central Railroad HA-1 take the inbound train, and K64 take the loaded coal train (NS 578). We end our part of this video as the train crawls across the Chesapeake and Delaware canal lift bridge off a newly constructed walking and biking trail in St. Georges.
