[If you wish to broadcast this material or use online please email us https://www.solo16.co.uk/contact and it will be considered.] The team behind the Swindon Heritage magazine are delighted to announce the details of the unveiling of the first blue plaque in the country to honour our Diana. Diana’s youngest son JASON DORS-LAKE (47) and his daughter RUBY LAKE (27) unveiled the plaque. The precise location, which until now has been a closely guarded secret, is the site of Diana Mary Fluck’s birth. Diana’s birth certificate gave a tantalising clue revealing the location as the Haven Nursing Home on Kent Road in Old Town Swindon. Just a year after her birth in 1931 the Haven Nursing Home reverted to being a family home and the location of Diana’s birth was lost in history. The adjoining property was the doctors surgery and the two buildings had internal interconnecting doors that allowed the doctor to assist the midwives when necessary. Coincidentally a book written about Diana’s life is called Connecting Dors. The 1959 Cadillac that was given to Diana Dors by Shepperton Studios was also at the unveiling. The (59 Caddy) was an all-new car for its era with its towering tailfins and lots of bright chrome work which made this flamboyant Caddy one of the best-known icons of the 1950's. Now having been fully restored by RR Elite of Wiltshire, the Pink Cadillac took centre stage. Jason said “I can’t wait to get back to Swindon, the last time I was there was when Ruby and I, she was only a baby in my arms then, unveiled the statue of my mother. I have never known the exact location of my mother’s birth so I was very excited when the Swindon Heritage team approached me.” Noel Beauchamp of Swindon Heritage said “To have one relative of Diana Dors Blonde Bombshell back in Swindon to unveil the plaque is exciting but to have two relatives is very special. Son and Granddaughter, it doesn’t get better than that! We want to give a big warm Swindon welcome Jason & Ruby on the day"
