OK....this is the Megadeth tune I intended to do when the day started out. I absolutely loved the album that this little gem comes from ("Rust in Peace")...it was the first album that Marty Friedman appeared on, and their best work, in my opinion. Lots and lots of cool bass intros to the tunes pepper this album, and "Five Magics" is no exception. This particular bass intro took me the longest to figure out, too...something about all those pedal notes confused me for years. So what is the tune about? Well, it is about a book by Thomas Hardy (I think) called "Master of the Five Magics". I read the book when a friend loaned it to me before a long, boring Christmas vacation in college. A good book, but a little cerebral....I still recommend it and its sequel, "Secret of the Sixth Magic" for those fantasy readers out there. Not your typical "stick a sword in the bad-guy" kinda book. Well, I nutbag a little during the tune and make a few errors, but then again, is there ever a tune I play perfectly?
