riding the psychedelic shinkansen into the lavish locus lounge of hallucinatory hues of hypercouture and the plethora of provocative pulchritude... and when we finally run out of adjectives, then it's time to PARTY!!! xD i have NO idea whatsoever of how i came to possess this record, but i listened to it for the very first time today and it totally blew me away - which is odd, because the whole "electroclash" thing never appealed to me in the slightest... but these guy(s) and/or girl(s) seem to utilise that particular sound as a mere jumping off point to explore more interesting territory: namely, the all-too-forgotten niche genre known as sophistipop. now even most "uninitiated" (or rather, sane) folk know well that Pizzicato Five are the unquestioned champions of that style, and the comparison is very appropriate in this case - the many explicit references to Japan notwithstanding. but for me another great - and more importantly, informative - comparison would be Everything but the Girl (or rather, their material prior to the "Walking Wounded" and "Temperamental" albums... which, incidentally, are both bloody brilliant xD). there’s also tinges of Björk and Stereolab in the mix. and of course the whole thing is marinated in this endearing retrofuturistic, hyper-mega-ultra-Japan-super-happy-funtime-celebrate vibe that just oozes from every sound, melody, drum and vocal. and *OF COURSE*, they're from Italy! xD so basically, if you're in the mood to dance, or just want some upbeat spacy shit to complement a joint or a glass of red wine, this is the album for you. i hope you enjoy it! all music by Giuseppe Barone & Alessandro Pagani
