DR SANDRA LEE - Earlobe repair: Fixing "pixie ear" created after a face lift procedure This patient of mine is the sweetest woman! She came in because she was unhappy with the way her earlobes looked after she had a lower facelift (the cosmetic surgery procedure was not performed by me). She was born with detached earlobes, but after the cosmetic surgery procedure, her earlobes were not attached to the side of her face/jawline. Now, this is a NORMAL finding in many people - in other words, many people have attached earlobes and this is not a problem for them. In this person's case, she disliked these earlobes because they were not what "she was born with". When a person gets a facelift, sutures are commonly placed in the front of the ear and the suture line wraps around to the back of the ear. The closure can lead to the formation of a "pixie ear deformity", meaning that the scar line pulls and stretches the earlobes, and may change the shape of a person's earlobes. If this is pronounced, it is a tell-tale sign that a person has had a face-lift/rhytidectomy. The surgery to correct this is fairly straight-forward, and you can see how this is accomplished in this video. She was pretty thrilled that she got her original earlobes back...
