First Solo Trip: New York City - New Year’s Eve 2022

Hey! In this vlog, I spent New Year’s Eve 2023 in New York City during my first solo trip, and the experience offered an excellent mix of culture, food, and unique city moments. I stayed in Newark, New Jersey, and commuted into Manhattan daily, which turned out to be a practical and efficient way to explore the city. The trip began with dinner at Ginger and Lemongrass, a Vietnamese restaurant in Newark that served impressive pho and Vietnamese coffee. That evening was also my first time navigating the subway system. Even though I got lost, the combination of street performers, crowds, and the fast pace of the transit system made it an engaging introduction to the city. The next morning, I met up with friends and tried New York-style pizza for the first time before heading into Times Square for New Year's Eve. The atmosphere was dense, rainy, and energetic, with a noticeable level of unpredictability after the ball drop. To regroup, we visited Smith’s Bar, a quieter, old-style bar, and later stopped at Chelsea Bell, a more modern bar with a younger crowd and a DJ. Throughout the trip, I met new people, explored different neighborhoods, and had several spontaneous moments, including trying homemade egg rolls at a small gathering. The following day, I walked down 5th Avenue, viewed the Cartier building, saw the Rockefeller Center skating rink and Christmas tree, stopped for cheesecake at the Majestic Delicatessen Café, and grabbed a street hot dog before attending a show at the Broadway Comedy Club. Later that night, I visited Mezro, a jazz bar in West Village with an elegant atmosphere, followed by The Spaniard, a bar that stayed lively well past midnight. On the final day, I spent the morning in Times Square and ate at Wasabi New York, where I ordered a sushi burrito and onigiri. I then visited the Museum of Modern Art, which became the highlight of the trip due to its thought-provoking paintings, sculptures, and overall environment. Before heading to the airport, I walked through the Bryant Park Holiday Market and purchased Demon Slayer artwork from a street vendor. This trip provided a balanced mix of art, nightlife, and cultural exploration, a solid option for travelers seeking an engaging New York City experience. Thank you for watching!
