The candies are hard and in the shape of a barrel, and they are wrapped individually. Each pound of the candy contains sixty pieces approximately. History of Dad’s Root Beer Dad’s Root Beer came into existence for the first time in the 1930s. The candy was a joint invention of Ely Klapman and Barney Berns in Klapman’s Chicago home’s basement. On September 24, 1938, the partners, under Dad’s Root Beer Company’s brand name, filed for the first trademark registration. The trademark was granted on February 14, 1939. However, the company had been using the product name since February 1937. During the 1940s, the brand saw a loyal following. In 1970, all rights to the Dad’s name and logo were sold by the Berns and Klapman families to IC Industries In 1986, the Monarch Beverage Company acquired all rights of Dad’s from IC Industries. In 2007, Hedinger Brands LLC purchased Dad’s Root Beer from the Monarch Beverage Company.
