Seven Years Later — The Day Yamakura Daijin Welcomed Me Back. This is not the Japan of postcards. Not the polite smiles, the silent trains, or the safe tourist routes. This is the raw heart of the country — where tradition hits like a hammer and the past refuses to bow to the present. In the quiet countryside of Chiba, the Yamakura Daijin Shrine awakens once a year with a force that shakes the entire village. Sacred salmon is offered to the gods, voices roar through the cold wind, and the mikoshi surges forward like a beast carried by warriors who do NOT let history die. I returned after seven years, not knowing how I would be received in a country where foreigners often walk on thin ice. But Yamakura didn’t hesitate. They didn’t judge. They didn’t hold back. They welcomed me with the fire of warriors who still believe in tradition. This isn’t just a festival. It’s a fight against time. A fight to protect what still matters. A fight to prove that culture lives only when people refuse to let it fade. If you want to see Japan’s true spirit — its discipline, its loyalty, its fury, its pride — don’t look at Tokyo. Look here. This is the Japan the world never sees. This is the Japan that still bleeds tradition. This is Yamakura Daijin — unleashed. The Village Where Time Stops — Where I Became a Yamakura Warrior Again. After seven long years, I returned to Yamakura Daijin. Despite my worries about how foreigners are seen today, the people of this small mountain village welcomed me with warm, genuine smiles— just like before, or perhaps even stronger. A place where time stands still. Quiet fields, an unchanged river, and the sacred spirit of the Hatsu-usai, the Salmon Festival. The crowds are smaller now. The festival feels quieter. Yet the spirit of Yamakura is still alive. This video is both my personal record of returning home and a tribute to the people who protect the true heart of Japan.
