I’m today’s video we are collecting rose of Sharon hardy hibiscus seeds. Deadheading prevents self seeding and will help the plant re bloom. When you leave your seed pods to form you shorten you bloom period because the plant focuses its energy into making seeds. When the pod is full and starting to brown it will crack open. This is the best time to collect the seeds. The pod I show has opened and started to drop seeds meaning I will have hibiscus volunteers everywhere. I take the seeds out and dry them for a week or two just open air on a counter. I like to store my seeds in glass jars. It is important to make sure they are dry or they can rot or start to grow with too much moisture in the jar. Another great way to store seeds is in paper envelopes just be sure they do not get wet. Fully developed seeds will be dark brown and have a ring of hair like an old balding man. Rose of Sharon does not come true to form so you can end up with different color of blooms and leaf shape.
