As of 2023, India has six national parties in its multi-party system. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is headed by Jagat Prakash Nadda, the Indian National Congress (INC), which Mallikarjun Kharge leads, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which is headed by Arvind Kejriwal, the Bahujan Samaj Party, which is headed by Mayawati, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), which is headed by Sitaram Yechury, and the National People's Party (NPP) which is headed by Conrad Sangma. There are also 58 state parties; examples include, the All India Trinamool Congress (Mamata Banerjee) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (M. K. Stalin). In addition to this, there are over 2,700 unrecognised parties.
