Full title: 'Mobilizing Law in Defence of Palestine - The ICC Arrest Warrants, the Arms Trade Treaty and the UK's Obligation to Prevent Genocide' It has been over a year since Israel declared its war against Hamas that has effectively become a war on Gaza. In addition to the ongoing brutality of violent acts committed by Israeli forces against civilians, the level and speed of damage to and destruction of homes and infrastructure across all sectors of economic activity in Gaza has not been seen in any other conflict in the 21st century. According to Amnesty International, remote sensing experts note that this destruction has been “much faster and more extensive” than anything they had mapped before. In the aftermath of several ICJ orders, decisions and opinions, arrest warrants from the ICC, and multiple reports from United Nations Special Rapporteurs and human rights organizations now documenting the unfolding genocide, this panel will consider the UK's obligations under international law to prevent genocide in Palestine, with a special focus on the arms trade and business' complicity in aiding and abetting the destruction, in whole or in part, of Palestinians in the oPt. Speakers: Daniel Machover, Partner, Hickman and Rose Solicitors Dr Irene Pietropaoli, British Institute for International and Comparative Law Dr Shahd Hammouri, School of Law, University of Kent With comment and discussion provided by Dr Nimer Sultany, School of Law, SOAS University of London
