The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced fresh constituency delimitation, extending the timeline for upcoming general elections beyond the 90-day constitutional limit. This decision follows the approval of the 2023 digital census results by the Council of Common Interests under the previous coalition government, which has made the process necessary and is expected to take about four months. To kick-start this process, administrative boundaries across the nation will be frozen by August 17th. Moreover, by August 21st, delimitation committees for provinces and the federal capital will be constituted. Subsequently, between August 22nd and 30th, the ECP will finalize administrative arrangements. This encompasses tasks such as requisitioning maps, gathering data, defining districts, and integrating census reports. To ensure the effectiveness of the delimitation committees, comprehensive training sessions will be conducted from September 1st to September 4th. Moreover, district quotas for both national and provincial assemblies will be shared with these committees from September 5th to 7th. The period from September 8th to October 7th is marked for the publication of preliminary delimitations.
