#HTUmyeloma In multiple myeloma, stem cell harvesting (apheresis) involves collecting the patient's own stem cells from the blood before undergoing high-dose chemotherapy. These harvested stem cells are then frozen and stored until after the cancer treatment, when they are reinfused into the patient to help rebuild their bone marrow and restore blood cell production. This procedure, known as an autologous stem cell transplant, is a standard treatment for multiple myeloma. In this HealthTree University lesson myeloma specialists will share when they believe is the best time to collect (harvest) stem cells.
