Pictures taken August 2021-Febrary 2022 Videos taken June 2021-March 2022 This is the Beachburg sub. It currently runs from Ottawa central train station to Nepean Junction in Ottawa. At Federal Junction Via trains no longer use the line. Only CN 589. The Beachburg began operating in 1915 as part of Canadian Northern Railway, then in 1923 it became part of the Canadian National Railway. The Beachburg sub used to run from Brent Ontario in Algonquin Provincial park to the Ottawa Central Station 6 miles away from federal junction. In Brent the sub meets the Alderdale sub which continues to North bay Ontario and Caproel. CN intended to make this a double mainline route, but never did. They did upgrade bridges to hold 2 tracks, but never actually added another line. In the 90s CN abandoned the line from Brent to Pembroke. The final train through the park was an eastbound freight on November 24, 1995. In 1998, CN sold off the remainder of the line to Quebec Railway Corporation who ran trains under the name Ottawa Central Railway. The OCR ran from 1998 to 2008. CN bought the Quebec Railway Corporation because they wanted some of their tracks out in New Brunswick and Quebec. CN didn't want the OCR track. CN ended up buying the Quebec Railway Corporation and the OCR. CN took over operations. Then in April 2013 CN abandoned the line from Pembroke Petawawa to Nepean Junction in Kanata. Nepean Junction is where the Renfrew spur becomes the Beachburg.
