Decarboxylation is a process that refers to the liberation of a carboxyl group (-COOH) into carbon dioxide (CO2) from a molecule. When talking about hemp or cannabis, decarboxylation occurs when high and/or prolonged heat is applied to acidic cannabinoids like CBDA or THCA to convert them to their neutral forms, CBD and THC. This process typically takes place at 200F and above, and can take up to 1 to 2 hours for complete decarboxylation of a sample depending on how high the heat is. For example, when smoking or vaping the process can be very quick due to the extreme heat being applied. In other cases, the natural acidic cannabinoids can decarboxylate very slowly when exposed to direct sunlight for months. Only recently have CBDA and other acidic cannabinoids come to the market as new purification technologies have advanced. Conventional purification uses required heat to distill and purify, thereby destroying the natural acidic forms. See more at: https://www.naturaldos.com/what-is-decarbo...
