Over the years, university campuses in India have become a common site of violence and terror. First was the JNU sedition row in 2016. Then Najeeb Ahmed’s disappearance from JNU campus. The Ramjas Violence in 2017. And now, the routine clampdown on dissenting students across universities– Jamia, AMU, DU, and JNU, to name a few. All these incidents of violence have one thing in common– they all have been instigated by right-wing extremist forces, who have gotten away with absolute impunity. University spaces are increasingly becoming severely unsafe for students from marginalised identities; they have to negotiate all forms of misogyny, homophobia, casteism, and islamophobia on a daily basis. Students are targeted for their identities and face a constant threat of violence for speaking against their oppression. And what does the State do in all of this? It shelters the perpetrators, encourages police brutality, and threatens to punish the victims of violence. __________________________________________________________________ Follow Feminism In India: Website: https://www.feminisminindia.com Facebook: / feminisminindia Twitter: / feminisminindia Instagram: / feminisminindia
