Conventional ideas of success often leave little room for failure, doubt, or detours. In this talk, the speaker reflects on how unlearning rigid definitions of success can open space for resilience, growth, and authenticity. Drawing from years of experience in education and leadership, the talk invites us to see failure not as a setback, but as a necessary teacher in shaping meaningful lives and lasting learning. Mr. Shaji V. Mathew is the Director of the Shankus Group of Schools and Founder Principal of Divine Child International School, Adalaj. With over 35 years of transformative experience in education leadership, he has built institutions recognized for innovation, integrity, and values-driven learning. A Certified Values-Based Education (VbE) Trainer from London and an alumnus of Harvard University’s Leadership Program, Mr. Mathew has represented India at global education conclaves in Finland, London, and the United States. Recipient of the Rabindranath Tagore National Award and the Principal Award for Parent Engagement, he also serves as CBSE City Coordinator for Gandhinagar, Sabarkantha, and Aravalli. His leadership philosophy — rooted in empathy, purpose, and service — continues to inspire educators and learners alike. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
