According to local reports, crews worked for hours to get this incident under control, with the building ultimately considered a total loss, and thankfully no injuries reported. From the dash cam perspective, you’ll see firefighters operating in a challenging environment with a heavy fire condition, lots of scene activity, and crews focused on controlling spread and protecting nearby exposures as conditions change. What you’ll see in this video Fireground scene size-up from the street Hose lines operating and water supply work Defensive operations as conditions intensify Exposure protection (keeping nearby structures from catching) Roadway closure / traffic impact around the fire scene Extended operations during a late-night incident A quick bit of history on the “old funeral home” This location is commonly associated with Lampkin / J.G. Lampkin Funeral Home in Fairmont, a business with deep local significance. Reporting has noted the funeral home was founded in 1929 and served the Black community in Fairmont for decades during segregation-era limitations, operating for roughly 90 years before the property was sold and the funeral home’s era ended. (If you know the exact name that was on the sign at the time this building was active, drop it in the comments — I’ll pin the best confirmation.) Respectful fireground observations (what I might do differently) Important note: I’m only seeing what the camera sees — not the interior conditions, command strategy, water supply limitations, dispatch info, or what’s happening on other sides of the building. So this is armchair commentary, not a criticism of the crews. From what’s visible here, a few things I personally always like to see emphasized on scenes like this: Clear collapse-zone discipline and keeping operating positions well out from dangerous walls/roof lines during defensive work (especially when the fire is already advanced). Strong perimeter control so bystanders and traffic stay far enough back for safety and for apparatus movement. Tight exposure protection priorities (protect what can be saved when the main building is already compromised). Crew rotation / rehab visibility during long-duration operations so nobody gets run down. Better scene lighting / organization where possible to reduce trip hazards and keep the fireground “clean” and predictable. Again — the crews on scene may already be doing all of this outside the camera’s view. I’m just sharing what I look for when watching a fireground operation from the street. If you were on scene, what would you prioritize first — exposure protection, water supply, or a fast transition to defensive ops? 👍 If you enjoy real-world WV response videos, hit like and consider subscribing for more. 📍 Location: Fairmont, WV 🔥 Incident: Commercial/structure fire near Pennsylvania Ave & Maple Ave #FairmontWV #FairmontWestVirginia #WestVirginia #WVFire #StructureFire #WorkingFire #Fireground #FireDepartment #FireResponse #EmergencyResponse #FirstResponders #WVNews #PennsylvaniaAvenue #MapleAvenue #CommercialFire #DefensiveOperations #ExposureProtection #DashCam #DashCamFootage #BreakingNewsWV #SmallTownAmerica #WVLife #MonongaliaCounty #MarionCountyWV #RealWorldFootage
