Billy Knight - Screening & Q and A with Eric Roth (Moderator) and Writer & Director Alec Roth at University of Southern California @ School of Cinematic Arts - October 30 2025 Starring Al Pacino Charlie Heaton Diana Silvers Angela Sarafyan Patrick Schwarzenegger Remember the name; Alec Roth… sometimes the pressure is on double fold when you’re trying to enter a business the likes of which and whose father is none other than the legendary screenwriter…Eric Roth… screenwriter of numerous Hollywood tent pole projects…and has worked with some of the biggest household names of our generation…so we got big shoes to fill here …but Papa really didn’t play his hand on this project in any way…it was all Alec… his writing and directing … What I did take away from this film was the amazing collaboration between Alec and Al Pacino…I’ve never seen this type of emotional depth in the writing and performances between these two artists but in such a strikingly arresting way … Al is so alive and fired up in these soliloquies and so melancholic but in a way that it tears you up inside in so many ways…and it begs to want to see more of this collaboration hopefully in future projects…with Pacino … whom has a lot to bring to the table even if he’s speaking words written by Alec Roth… Pacino’s life experience and his emotional take on this crazy business we call Hollywood… and after reading his autobiography SONNY BOY…the poignancy of what is said and how it all ties in to these characters is better left on screen for you to discover… but Alec says Pacino is coming from Pacino’s own experience…the film may start a little slow but hang in there and you’ll be glad you did… Pacino lights up every scene he’s in and you’ll see him like you’ve never seen him before…that I can promise you… Not to mention Angela Sarafyan goes toe to toe with the Great Pacino flawlessly and Patrick Schwarzenegger has the load of playing a “bad actor” which is one of the hardest things to be asked to do in a movie when you know you got the stuff to deliver…when you know you’re not really a bad actor in real life…which he isn’t after all … so kudos to y’all… for giving us a glimpse of the old Hollywood and a little bit of the new … so things haven’t really changed much…after all… we all want to learn to be better and make good films… so why not ?! Pacino!? It was great to see father and son exchanging their ideas on the finished film…in the q and a and so maturely and … kinda makes you envious of the type of relationship I wish I had with my father … but that’s another story…one Alec has inspired me to sit behind a type writer and start writing myself … Kudos to you Alec… and to Mr. Roth for fathering such an amazing newcomer …hopefully one I’ll get to work with one day as well.. here’s hoping…
