THE SPLIT DIOPTER lens is a piece of half convex glass that attaches to the main lens of the camera. This makes half the lens nearsighted while the other half remains farsighted; creating the illusion of a deep focus. This technique is used to convey more information in a single shot, as well as creating a sense of uneasiness for the viewer. - The Split Diopter allows for Deep Focus cinematography but requires much less light.
