🌟 Acknowledgement Special Thanks to Priv.-Doz. Dr. Maria Wurzinger, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna A large portion of this presentation is built on the slides originally created by Dr. Maria Wurzinger. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to Maria for the possibility to use her slides in this video presentation on the CBBP topic. 📚 Contents The products of animal and plant breeding provide us the entirety of our food resources and numerous other benefits. The improvement of the populations, in general, is done within so-called breeding programs, where it is ensured that the genetically superior individuals are selected, and pass on their genes to the next generations. As an outcome of this process, the production levels increase. Globally, breeding is a high-tech business, involving sophisticated phenotyping and genotyping (SNP, whole-genome sequence) techniques. In #low-incomeCountries, or sometimes also called #developingCountries, these high tech solutions are not always feasible, due to the various challenges on the ground. This video lists some of these challenges and possible problems, in the context of #animalBreeding and #genetics. Also, it goes into detail about the so-called #Community-based #breedingPrograms #CBBP, and their implementation details. Some examples and pictures are also shown, mostly from CBBPs from #Ethiopia Thumbnail map source: Produced by EC and OECD based on the classification of the World Bank; Classification of countries in income classes https://www.oecd-ilibrary.org/sites/8...
