Mid shot of gun being loaded STORYLINE: It was quiet in the streets of Baghdad on Friday after the city was bombarded on Thursday night with US and British warplanes and cruise missile air raids. Despite the attacks, Iraqi police, soldiers, and volunteers maintained an obvious presence by directing traffic and carrying guns in the country's capital, where five million people live. On Thursday night US missiles and bombs struck specific targets including the main presidential palace in Baghdad and strongholds of the Iraqi army's elite Special Republican Guard. Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Sa'eed al-Sahhaf confirmed on Friday that one of Saddam Hussein's homes was hit in Thursday's bombing, though he said no one was hurt. Meanwhile, a spokesman for British forces in the Gulf said coalition troops might enter Baghdad within the next "three or four days".
