It is based mostly on real historical events but also offers some fictive scenarios that can be experienced if the player is particularly successful – or unsuccessful. It is a successor to the highly acclaimed Panzer General series (which was first published in 1994 by SSI) and relatively similar, but also sports some new features. Panzer Corps Gold edition contains a number of campaigns and scenarios for the Axis, the Allies, US troops and the Soviets, all in all 17 expansion packs. The game's sequel Panzer Corps 2 was released in 2020. The video game Panzer Corps was developed by The Lordz Games Studio and Flashback Games and published by Slitherine Software in 2010. The Gold Edition was released in 2016. PANZER CORPS GOLD: THE BACKGROUND, GAME MECHANICS AND CONTROVERSY In Panzer Corps Gold players represent a military decision maker/general of World War 2 (WW2). They have to choose which military units to deploy and which to develop over the course of the campaign. Sometimes there are strategic choices that determine what kind of mission aka strategic map will be next to play. The game's Grand Campaign lasts throughout the whole war 1939 to 1945. The game sports a great variety of thousands of military units. There are different types of infantry, artillery, tanks, anti-air or anti-tank, cavalry, fighter planes, tactical bombers, strategic bombers and naval units many of which are historically accurate WW2 models. Getting to know the military gear of the phases of WW2 is a highly interesting topic that makes this game shine. As a military general the player's goal is not only to be successful in the missions but also to accumulate prestige. With prestige you pay for new units, replacements and technological upgrades. The game focuses on pure strategy. That means for example that there are only limited logistical challenges, no production of war material and no further aspects of warfare like good or bad leadership of individual units or medical aid for the soldiers. Some missions give false impressions of historical events. The political dimension of WW2 is also not implemented in the game and neither are aspects like war crimes of all sides, particularly the crimes the SS and Wehrmacht committed in the conquered and occupied states or the Soviets committed for example in Poland. This unreflected approach makes the game a bit problematic especially when playing the Axis or the Soviets. So reading and thinking about the topic on your own is advised. PANZER CORPS GOLD: RECEPTION The game was received very favorably with scores in all media usually beyond 80/100. THIS PANZER CORPS GOLD LET'S PLAY In this Lets Play we will see a full Panzer Corps Gold playthrough. We will play the complete grand campaign on the side of the Axis starting in 1939 with the Nazi-German assault on Poland that started the events of WW2 through all the war's fronts until the end of the war. We will play on difficulty level “General” which will give the enemy a 150% prestige advantage and the highest level of AI. So there will be waves after waves of Polish tanks coming at us (contrary to legend in reality those were pretty good ones by the way, just not not used to their full tactical potential). As with all my Let's Plays this series also functions as a tutorial and walkthrough. We will see lots of uncut commented gameplay. In the end of this series of game videos I will add a video with my collected thoughts which will function as a test and review for Panzer Corps Gold.
