The debate surrounding circumcision is literally older than the bible. It is considered the world's oldest planned surgical procedure, pre-dating recorded history. In today’s video I will not settle this debate, but I will provide you with medical argument for and against circumcision. Find the playlists here: • Sex Related Medical Problems The Circumcision In this procedure the foreskin is removed. In first world countries it all starts with a doctors appointment. Your doctor will explain the risks and benefits of the procedure. Afterwards the procedure can be planned. Fast forward to the day of the procedure. The first step is disinfecting. Afterwards an anesthetic will be injected. Next the foreskin is extended with forceps, afterwich the foreskin is excised. Afterward, it will be covered with an ointment, containing antibiotic and/or petroleum jelly, and it will be bandaged. The procedure generally takes about 10-20 minutes. When to contact your doctor? It is important to contact your doctor if you can’t pee within 12 hours after the circumcision, if you experience persistent bleeding or if you experience a wound infection. Why preform a circumcision? Circumcision is associated with reduced rates of sexually transmitted infections, urinary tract infections and it decreases the risk on a rare type of penile cancer. In addition it is also a treatment option for cases of phimosis and chronic urinary tract infections.
