Dalit Man Hacked To Death In TN, 'Honour Killing' Sparks Political War

A 27-year-old Dalit software engineer, Kavin Selva Ganesh, was hacked to death in the Tiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu, in what his family alleges is a caste-based honour killing. Kavin was in a long-term relationship with a woman from an OBC community. Following the incident, the woman's brother was arrested, and her parents, both sub-inspectors, were suspended, with the father also being arrested. The case has ignited a political firestorm, with the AIADMK criticising the DMK government's record on social justice. DMK MP Kanimuri visited the victim's family to assure them of justice. Amid the turmoil, the girlfriend released a video statement, saying, "My parents have nothing to do with this. It is wrong to want to punish them. Leave them alone."
