In recent years, Latin America has seen a surge in the utilization of digital technologies, particularly in the realms of e-commerce and telecommunications. Organizations such as the Pacific Alliance and Mercosur are already setting the stage for a regional digital market, fostering open digital trade, and advancing their respective Digital Agendas. However, the ongoing global uncertainty - amplified by events like the war in Ukraine, supply chain disruptions, and inflation, among others - presents challenges that necessitate new growth strategies. Amid this landscape, Latin America, with its robust policy infrastructure and high standards on core disciplines, emerges as a fertile ground for further integration through digital trade. This webinar explores the following questions: ▶ How can we promote inclusive and forward-looking trade discussions that could bridge digital trade gaps in the regional context? ▶ Is a regional Digital Economy Agreement (DEA) achievable? ▶ What role does the private sector play in these pivotal discussions? Join our panel of experts to delve into these questions and envision a more integrated, prosperous, and digitally-enabled Latin America: ● Natalia Porras, Ministry of Economy, Industry, and Commerce, Costa Rica ● Nanno Moulder, Division of International Trade, United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean ● Karina Tejada, Coordinator of Trade Negotiations on Services and Electronic Commerce, Ministry of Trade and Tourism, Peru Moderator ● Alejandro Patiño, information and communications technologies (ICT) sector specialist and researcher at the Unit of Innovation and New Technologies at the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean With introductory remarks from the Trade Policy Exchange by Nicolás Schubert.
