This should have been an easy project with a few interesting details. Instead, it took over my shop for 15 months and brought me to my knees—literally. Welcome to Wylie, home of the Thomas and Mattie Brown House and Welcome Center, home to my latest project. This is my most ambitious build as Pecan Tree Design: four Victorian-inspired display units made to feel like they’ve always been part of this historic home. Between an approval process that took eight months and a delivery driver who needed me to unload the 200+ board feet of maple and plywood with him. I thought the logistics were the hard part, I was wrong. Somewhere between the mountain of maple and the custom slat walls, a history of spinal abuse caught up with me like a runaway train. This video isn't just about woodworking; it’s about a 15-month journey through pain, recovery, and a workshop reinvention.
