UPDATES: Please read the pinned comment. Pressure sensitive buttons and rumble are now fully supported with the latest firmware! Gusse has a new revision to the flex! It's more rigid, and solves having to trim the pins down or move the capacitor. It fits much better! DISCLAIMERS: I’ve had a couple people come to me having made shorts when soldering down the ESP32 to the flex. I know I touch on soldering technique in the video, but this is not a soldering tutorial. Please use soldering techniques you are experienced and comfortable with, be it drag soldering or otherwise. I am not responsible for any issues that occur during your installation. I really don't recommend putting the bottom shield back on to your console without taking a lot of care. If you really feel the need to, I advise you remove the shield of the ESP32, and cover the ESP32's exposed components with kapton tape. This will result in less pressure applied to the mod when putting the shield back on. The shield does have a plastic insulator attached to it, but better to be safe than sorry. When leaving out the shield, you can use the mounts Gusse provides on his website in place of the shield. If you are using the iFlash kit from Arthrimus, then of course use his mount instead. I also advise you follow the official guide where the wires are concerned. Follow my wiring at your own risk, and use your own common sense. Make sure the wires aren't causing any extra pressure once reassembling. Make sure they aren't pinched by anything. Take care. Also, while you can see 4 controllers connect to the PS2 near the end of the video, this is only to show the different controller type support. It seems that multitap is not currently supported with BlueRetro, so 4 controllers wouldn’t actually work in game. If you have any questions regarding your install, I'll be more than happy to help out! ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: Today I'm showing you exactly how I install the PS2 slim Methylene mod from Gusse. I wouldn't call this a guide, but if this video helps anyone with installing their own, then that's great! The PS2 Slim Methylene is a solderable flex cable, designed to make installing an ESP32 for BlueRetro firmware a little easier. Before, we would install just the ESP32 with wires, soldered directly to the controller pins. This method though, would render wired controllers unusable, with ghost input presses. With the use of ManCloud89's current sensing trigger circuit integrated into the flex, the use of wired controllers is kept in tact, with all of its great features! Gusse additionally added the brilliant feature of power on/off and reset being usable with the controller, triggering an audible indicator, just like Sony did with the PS3, 4, and 5. To power off the console, you press and hold L2, R2, Start, X, then release. I'd also like to thank Gusse for his continued patience and support. I've been a real pain in the ass with all sorts of questions regarding this mod, and he's been nothing but helpful.
