The esophagus is divided into three parts : Upper , Middle and lower , the lower esophagus tumor are clubbed with G junction tumors The upper esophagus tumors are differently treated than middle which has different treatment from the lower esophagus tumors too. The treatments are tailored accordingly and given. Surgery : It can be done when the tumor is confined to the esophagus, there is no lymph nodal spread, and the lesions seem very early, not going beyond the boundaries of the esophagus, it is called esophagectomy, and can be done in three ways open, laparoscopic, and robotic. Radiation : When it is locally advanced, radiation therapy is given to downsize the tumor in the esophagus, once the tumor is downsized, then the surgeon can do his job to the utmost level, and the outcomes will be good. Chemo therapy : If there is a residual disease after chemo or radiation they will be given surgery or else if no residue, they will be kept of follow up. Precautions : Repeated trauma to the mucosal: Controlling gastro esophageal reflux Avoid eating rough food. Avoid eating hot food and hot liquids Avoiding pickles and fried foods.
