by Alisa Lemire Brooks, www.orcanetwork.org At least the K12s, K13s, & K14s (IDs confirmed by Melisa Pinnow, Center for Whale Research, and Sara Hysong-Shimazu) Ks traveled southbound through Puget Sound today, then took a very unusual route and turned left entering Commencement Bay off downtown Tacoma. They continued deep into the bay spread out in 1-2s, traveled mid way in then flipped once they neared 2 anchored tankers. They then grouped up, first into 3 groups heading back out more mid channel, went on a long dive then surfaced in this big beautiful tight group right out in front of me! A moving encounter forever etched in my being, one of the best with these iconic beings of the Salish Sea. We all hope they found some salmon on their travels through Puget Sound today, they are in desperate need of more healthy salmon!
