The Lardeau is a region stuck in time. During the 1890s, it became the center of lode gold prospecting. Miners came from the United States and Canada to prospect for gold up in the mountains. This area is also home to the worlds only inland temperate rainforest. Gold float was found here near the creek, and a gold rush began. There are a series of ghost towns in the area that are the only remains of a forgotten past. Today, the Lardeau region is remote with little activity in the area.
