I'm featuring this one because the music is really good, but the words are fun also so I've thrown in some of those as well. Elsie Janis was a successful stage and film actress, songwriter and screenplay writer who started out as a child performer in vaudeville. As an adult she played on Broadway and in London and then on film. This song was published by Jerome Remick in New York City in 1913. The theme anti-ragtime girl is based on the notion that "naughty" girls were drawn to ragtime and ragtime venues, while "good" girls chose more traditional forms of music and entertainment.
