Wild parrots deserve our attention and support. Helping to preserve psittacines and their habitats are important to those of us who appreciate and love parrots. The Macaw Society (formerly known as the Tambopata Macaw Project) conducts long-term research projects regarding the ecology and conservation of macaws and other parrots under the direction of Donald Brightsmith and Gabriela Vigo Trauco of the Schubot Center for Avian Health at the Texas A&M University. The Macaw Society has been working in the lowlands of southeastern Peru for more than two decades. They work with collaborators on a broad array of projects focused on the ecology and conservation of psittacines. They have several ongoing research studies regarding wild chicks, foster parents, and one of our favorites - are pairs truly faithful? Dr. Brightsmith and Dr. Gaby Vigo Trauco gave us an update of some ongoing projects as well as findings from some key prior studies. This is a great opportunity to join us live and ask questions about wild parrot behavior, nutrition, etc. To learn more about The Macaw Society or to help, go to https://vetmed.tamu.edu/themacawsocie...
