It’s known for being home to the towering Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple set along Mangalagiri Hill, one of 8 chief holy temples in India. There are popular walking paths near the temple and in the Mangalagiri Reserved Forest. The area offers shops and casual eateries, as well as many movie theatres and additional temples. Mangalagiri Town is very famous for the Handloom weaving and Lord Narasimha Swamy Temple. The temple atop the hill is dedicated to Lord Panakala Narasimha Swamy. The fascinating feature of the temple is the 11 storeyed Gopuram, called “Gali Gopuram”. Mangalagiri of Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh, India, is between Vijayawada and Guntur on National Highway No. 5. Mangalagiri means “Auspicious Hill”. During the Vijayanagara rule it was known as Mangala Nilayam and then later came to be known as Totadri. Sri Mangala Giri Narasimha, This temple is said to be built by Dharmaraya and sage Shatananda who is Gautama Rishi's grandson installed the diety in the temple.It is said that Narasimha incarnated here to kill a demon by name Namuchi.
