With hints of sun and birdsong in the air, it seems a good time to look for spring. And if it is spring, North Oxford is the best place to appreciate it, with its many trees and — eventually — cherry blossom. So I start an afternoon walk from Observatory Crescent shops and St. Bernard's Road. From there, I go up Woodstock Road to Church Walk, along North Parade, up Banbury Road to Park Town, and through to the Dragon School, Charlbury Road and Linton Road. Wolfson College is at the end, but I don't look at that today. Instead, I walk back down Banbury Road, along St. Margaret's Road past St. Hugh's College, and down Woodstock Road and past even more of St. Hugh's. Finally, I turn down St. Bernard's Road and finish on Walton Street at the still derelict Frog Party Orange. The walk takes in the affluent villas of Park Town, the red-brick extravagance of surrounding roads, and more extravagance on some surprisingly short stretches of posh new paving.
