Walking the O'Higgins Park - Places for relaxing in the city of Santiago - Chile

In this video I walk you through the O’Higgins Park or Parque O’Higgins in the southern border of the city of Santiago, Chile. It is an urban park that covers about 190 acres of land. It includes a large concrete esplanade surrounded by vast fields of grass and trees where people seek shade from the hot sun. It also includes a variety of buildings including the Movistar Arena where pop/rock concerts are held every now and then, another smaller concert hall, an insects’ museum, a permanent exhibition of aquariums, two large ponds, one with pedal boats, ducks and geese, 2 public pools, a roller-skating rink and a skate park, a football/soccer field and tennis courts, and lots of stores where you can purchase souvenirs, fast food and a proper meal. The Lollapalooza in Chile is hosted every year since 2011 on the esplanade. The biggest amusement park in Chile, “Fantasilandia”, is connected to the park in its northwest side, and all the screaming with it. In this urban park the locals come to have picnics, play games, practice sports, exercise, walk or simply join in groups to chat, mainly on weekends and holidays. It is one of the main gathering spots to celebrate the Chilean National day (which usually goes on for a week or more) playing games, eating, dancing and drinking. Yes, Chile is one of those countries with most eager drinkers. It is surrounded by a low middle-class neighborhood and is very accessible from anywhere in Santiago, using the subway or by car, although parking is in the street and not under the supervision of the park.
