Safe handling of a fire protection explosive actuator (squib), This video Is for entertainment purposes only and is no substitute for you reading the manufacture instructions as well as being properly trained in the first place, the item shown in this video is commonly used in many inert gas fire protection systems and it is electronically activated, it basically Ignites a small explosive charge that will burst a metal diaphragm that holds back the pressure of the inert gas in a bottle at which time it will charge the pipes in the inert fire suppression system and flood the room with an inert gas to suppress or extinguish a fire. The only reason I’m posting this video is because I know of someone who started to disassemble one of these and did not do it properly because they didn’t read the instructions, fortunately there were no injuries Or incident of any kind but there could have been. Please read the following carefully: Speaking as someone who was in the Marines and dealt with explosives you need to have the upmost respect for everything no matter how small are insignificant it may seem. People lose fingers in hands to firecrackers every year just because of the physics involved which I won’t be getting into. If something says explosive then please stay away from it. This is not a firework or pyrotechnic device, If I were to run long wires to it and set it off in the middle of nowhere that would be a small pop and probably not even a flash. My goal is to make sure that people shunt as in connect the proper wires And cap off the correct ones with wire nuts which I am not going into detail about I’m just saying do it and read your instructions and if you’re properly trained you would know that in the first place. I really would like to put just enough fear and the people to do their jobs the right way and avoid any injury. This video does not show you how to make or operate any type of pyrotechnic or explosive device and I would never do that. It is simply Part of the process of replacing a device to actuate a fire protection system. This video is not meant as a training film
