From Borges to the Neurology Clinic: Navigating the Limits and Opportunities of Language with Dr. Federico Rodriguez-Porcel Dr. Federico Rodriguez-Porcel is a neurologist at the Medical University of South Carolina. About the talk: "That is not what I meant," or "I don't have words for this". We use language every day, and every day we face the challenge of describing a vast and complex world with a limited set of words. Drawing on examples from fiction and clinical practice, this discussion aims to highlight how the nature of language may shape how we see the world and communicate with others. Attendees can consider reading some Jorge Luis Borges’ works, such as "The Analytical Language of John Wilkins", "Funes, the Memorious“, “The Library of Babel“ and “Pierre Menard, Author of the Quixote”. They are also welcome to bring to the discussion works of fiction that deal with the nature of language.
