Day two of my Hogmanay escape to the Isle of Skye and what a day it was. I woke up to a frosty, postcard‑perfect view of Eilean Donan Castle, the kind of scene that makes you forget the cold and just breathe it all in. From there I crossed the Skye Bridge into a world of winter light and quiet roads, stopping at Loch Ainort and Portree Harbour before heading north. The views kept getting better: Loch Fada shimmering under a bright blue sky and then the big one — a hike up to the Old Man of Storr. Crisp air, cracking photos and that feeling of being very small in a very ancient landscape. As darkness fell, I found a peaceful park‑up where I could hear geese somewhere out in the night but couldn’t see a thing. Classic winter‑van‑life mystery. Dinner cooked in Dougal, a cosy film, and a bit of planning for the next day’s adventures rounded things off perfectly.
