We find ourselves confronted with one of Scripture's most brutally honest books: Ecclesiastes. Solomon, a man who had everything, wealth beyond measure, wisdom celebrated worldwide, power, pleasure, and accomplishment, looks back on his life and asks the question we all secretly wonder: Does any of this really matter? His answer, when we remove God from the picture, is sobering. Under the sun, everything is futile, like grasping smoke or chasing wind. Our lives are brief, our accomplishments temporary, and nature itself is indifferent to our existence. Even our monuments crumble, our names are forgotten, and history repeats itself endlessly as each generation searches for meaning in the same empty places. But here's the beautiful twist: this isn't meant to depress us. It's meant to wake us up. When we finally stop trying to find meaning in our careers, relationships, success, or achievements, when we stop chasing smoke, we're finally ready to look for meaning where it actually exists. The Gospel of John reveals that the Logos, the meaning of life that Greek philosophers desperately sought, isn't a principle or philosophy. It's a person: Jesus Christ. In Him, everything changes. Our brief lives gain eternal significance. A conversation at work, changing a diaper at 4 AM, trimming bushes at church, these vapor-like moments can shape eternity when done for God's glory. We're invited to stop building our lives on things that will blow away and instead build on the One who makes all things new.
