Straight talk on teachers' unions, grade inflation, soft courses in humanities, and our inability to teach gifted students correctly for fear of violating "social justice." In 2012, NY had the highest expenditure per pupil, $19,552, almost twice the national average, while getting some of the worst results: among 4th graders, 40% were proficient in math; 37%, in reading. The NY unions are so corrupt and overpaid that teachers make more in benefits than Florida spends on salaries, per pupil! Stand up to the unions. They have no moral high ground. They are stealing taxpayer money and giving little in return. Churchill would say of them, "NEVER HAVE SO MANY BEEN PAID SO MUCH FOR DOING SO LITTLE." The unions are the ultimate 'special interest group' – taking from the rest of society to feather their own nest, hurting the general interest, citizen and taxpayer and voter, and bullying us with phony rhetoric about how their job is valuable, how they are underpaid and dedicated to children. It is all an irrelevant distraction from the issue of fairness to the taxpayer, to get the benefit of market rates for market services without unions ripping taxpayers off by charging 4 times as much as is necessary to do the same job! One could hire non-union educators from the business community, put them in a vacant warehouse with nothing but a chalkboard and tables and chairs and get much better results for 25% of the cost. It also costs $313,000 in legal expenses and takes years to fire one incompetent teacher in NY. The time is now, after Detroit went bankrupt from unions, to rescue NY from the inevitable bankruptcy of the damn unions. Screw the selfish unions. There should be no government unions. The results are always the same – collusion with politicians to steal money from taxpayers to do second-rate work. Stick up for the taxpayers on your street. They are getting ripped off by the unions right now, today. What are we taxpayers going to do about it? Are we going to truckle to selfish union lies or stand up for what is right? Defund corrupt ineffective teachers unions. Don't believe their rhetoric. They will say anything to defend their being overpaid and over-pensioned, as in Wisconsin, where they walked out on their jobs to protest and said it was "for the children." No, you'd be back teaching the kids, if that was your priority! One union boss was asked why his union activity did not focus on students, and he said students had no vote in the union. That said it all, folks. End the unions, which are expensive failures, a way to bleed the taxpayer. As Woody Brock said at the Aspen Institute in the '90s, "Catholic schools in slums, with half the expenditure per pupil, get much better results!" Aired in 2000.
