The Kyle of Lochalsh Line: Scotland's Most Underrated Railway Line

Scotland is renown for its stunning railway lines like the West Highland Line but one line that doesn't get talked about in the same vein is the line from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh. The route spanning 82 miles between the former Skye ferry port and the capital of the highlands is one of the most scenic routes in the country and in my opinion one that is not talked about enough. Upon departure out of Kyle of Lochalsh you immediately run alongside the Inner Sound of Loch Alsh where you can look over and see the hills of Skye, Scalpay and Raasay. As the line ventures further East you arrive at Plockton where upon departure enter Loch Carron where the line will run alongside the Loch for its entirety. After arriving at Strathcarron the line heads inland but the mountainous scenery remains stunning, the line heads north of Inverness up to places such as Garve, Dingwall and Beauly where it then heads for Inverness. Unfortunately darkness was beginnning to creep in around the Dingwall area so the scenery from that point on was unfortunately limited, however it still remains a beautiful line that should be tried out!
