igh-power laser cladding opens new possibilities for coating large and massive components with extremely high productivity. In this video, I give an introduction to high-power laser cladding and explain what becomes possible when working with laser powers in the range of 10–20 kW. At these power levels, conventional process assumptions change significantly. I discuss the use of different beam shapes, including: – circular laser spots with diameters above 10 mm – rectangular laser spots with widths up to 20 mm These spot geometries enable very high surface coverage rates, the production of thick coatings in a single pass, and improved process economics for large and massive parts.
